Ugh. So they're sticking with the poor Belle was ignored and neglected BS. Lord. Shawn is NOT perfect, however I don't believe he would get so involved with school or work or whatever that he'd totally ignore her. He obviously didn't neglect Claire as they're very close. So he just neglected Belle? Even if he did, that does NOT excuse Belle cheating and being so cold. How about that little thing called communication, Belle? Shawn has been nothing but forgiving towards her on screen. If they wanted to put Shawn and Belle with other people for awhile, fine (though I wish it wasn't Belle/Philip). But I hate the way they've written it. Destroying Shelle like this wasn't necessary. I'm ready for Shawn to move on. He would do anything for Belle, but he doesn't deserve to be treated this way...especially by her of all people. Free Shawn. |

I understand that Belle is a woman who is easily cheating and I could buy one of those character if I could understand her motives why she so easily cheating, she has a low self-esteem love is gone, etc.? The thing is that the writers do not explain why Belle is a cold, cheating woman with a bitchy attitude so it's hard to relate to her as a character, on the whole, she feels hollow and empty. IMO |

It's difficult for me to understand the way Belle treats Claire, but I feel like Belle has had an icy personality for years now. She hasn't been sweet since sometime around 2004. The only difference is that she's stopped pretending to be kind and warm and has embraced her self-centered attitude. |

This x1000. I despised Belle in 2006-2008. So much so, that EJ's greatest crime in my mind was his failure to run her down as he planned because he had to answer a phone call from Sami. And the biggest reason that I hated her was because she had Philip and Shawn running in circles around her, desperate for her, and for no reason that I could see. Characters talked about how wonderful she was, but what I saw was a selfish, self-centered, spoiled kid/woman who enjoyed have two guys on the hook. She was judgmental as hell and the hoops she made Shawn jump through in order to prove himself were ridiculous. Even the affair with Philip pissed me off because it was more about what Shawn wasn't doing/being than it was about what Belle supposedly felt for Philip. I happily waved as she and Shawn sailed into the sunset. So, this time around, I'm thrilled that Belle clearly isn't supposed to be a sweet, wonderful person that everybody should love. The writers have embraced her selfishness and that makes all the difference. She's jaded, selfish, and yes, a bit bitchy and it's made me like the character more than I never could have imagined seven or eight years ago. |

I actually don't want an elaborate explanation about why Belle is the way she is. Many times I find that kind of explanation, especially for the female characters, patronizing. Some people are by nature moody, snippy and self-centered, the way she is, without some elaborate internal struggle. While I don't actually like Belle, the reason I don't have a problem with the writing that they're actually having Shawn and Claire call her on the aspects of her personality that are problematic. It would be a whole different story if they were acting like she's a really nice warm person. Edited by JaimeLannister, Feb 18 2016, 12:10 PM.
